The Gold Medal flour brand was launched after 1880 when Washburn & Crosby Company won gold, silver and bronze medals at the Millers’ International Exhibition in Cincinnati. General Mills acquired the Gold Medal brand in 1928 when Washburn-Crosby merged with 28 other mills.
